What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • Which size

A Castel 60 at 331 lb and a Grand Palais at 710 are different numbers of people.

  • The route

Floor protection, doorways, thresholds. Most damage on this job happens in the corridor rather than in the kitchen.

  • How far

Out and back for a floor repair is not the same as into another room.

  • What has to be disconnected

Gas, electrical, and on some installations the hood duct as well.

  • What we find behind it

A connector kinked on installation day is often discovered here, and correcting it is cheaper while the range is out.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • A very heavy range raised on low machine skates over sheets of protective board in a bright empty kitchen, webbing straps around its body and a pry bar leaning against the wall.

    Range relocation and leveling

Moving a hand-built French range is a planned job. A Grand Palais 180 is about 710 lb uncrated, the legs are adjustable across half an inch of specified height, and a range that is out of level cooks unevenly in a way that looks exactly like an oven problem.

    • Enough people and the right equipment, or it does not get moved
    • Leveled to specification and verified with water on the shelf
    • Gas and electrical disconnected and reconnected properly, not stretched

About La Cornue range relocation and leveling cost

The number that explains this figure

1320 lb crated, 710 lb without the crate, on a Grand Palais 180. Even a Grand Castel 90 is about 330 lb uncrated. That is equipment and people rather than enthusiasm, and it is the only job on this site where mass rather than access sets the price. Everything else about a La Cornue is repaired from the front with the range where it stands, which is the whole design intention — these were built to be serviced in place for decades.

Questions about La Cornue range relocation and leveling cost

Can two of us not just slide it out?

Please do not. Half a ton on adjustable legs, on a tile or stone floor, with a gas connector behind it, is how floors get gouged, legs get bent and connectors get strained — and a strained gas connector is not a problem you find out about immediately. If it genuinely has to move before we get there, turn the gas off at the appliance valve first.

Do you re-level it afterwards or is that extra?

It is the job, not an extra. A range that has been moved and not re-leveled cooks unevenly, and since La Cornue's own test for level is a dish of water on an oven shelf, proving it takes about two minutes. Anybody who moves one of these and does not do that has not finished.
