What moves it
Why two of the same job cost different amounts
These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.
-
Bake or broil
Two separate circuits, two separate parts, and the symptom tells us which.
-
Which oven
Gas side, electric side, or the Tourelle — three different platforms.
-
Whether the terminals are burnt
Where elements actually fail, and where a new one will fail early if the cause is left.
-
Element availability
Current-line elements are sourced domestically; an older configuration may not be.
-
Whether the control is implicated
An element that has failed because a control was cycling it wrongly is two repairs presented as one.

What we actually do
The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.
-
from $255 Oven element and broiler replacement
Every vaulted gas oven on this make carries an electric broiler above it, and the electric ovens are elements throughout. That means a range can lose browning and keep baking perfectly, or the reverse, and the two are separate parts.
- Bake and broil are separate circuits and separate failures
- Elements measured cold and under load
- Element supports and terminals checked, because that is where they burn out

About La Cornue oven element and broiler replacement cost
Why the terminals matter more than the element
An element rarely fails in the middle of its length. It fails at a terminal, where the connection has been heating and cooling for twenty years, and a burnt terminal block will destroy a new element as efficiently as it destroyed the old one. So the job includes the connections and the supports rather than treating them as somebody else's problem — which is the difference between a repair and a part swap, and it is where the figure goes.

Questions about La Cornue oven element and broiler replacement cost
Only the top browns. Is that one element or two?
One, almost certainly — and it is good news, because it means the broil circuit is working and the bake circuit is not. On this make that is entirely possible: the vaulted gas ovens carry an electric broiler over a gas burner, and the electric ovens have separate bake and broil elements. Tell us which function still works and we bring the right part.
Is it worth replacing both while you are there?
Usually not, and we will not push it. Elements do not wear out in sympathy, and the second one is genuinely likely to have years left. The exception is an oven where both have visibly discoloured and the range has done decades — then doing both on one visit saves a second labor charge, and we will say so and let you decide.
