What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • How many burners

A Grand Palais 180 with a plaque, a grill and two ovens is a different job from a Castel 75.

  • Which direction

Natural gas to propane and back are both done, and the parts differ.

  • What was done before

A half-converted range — fronts done, plaque forgotten — is common and adds diagnosis.

  • The regulator

Frequently the part that was never changed, and the reason every burner runs wrong.

  • Altitude

Above 2,000 feet a Château is specified differently, and a CornuFé wants its high-altitude kit above 5,000.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • A tiny brass orifice held in fine tweezers directly over an open burner well, a nut driver and a second orifice lying on the steel top beside it.

    Propane conversion service

La Cornue publishes a conversion procedure and a specific parts set for the CornuFé 90 and 110, and specifies fuel at order time on a Château. A conversion done with approximate parts gives yellow flames, soot and burners that will not hold a simmer — and it is one of the most common things we undo on a range that has changed house or fuel.

    • The maker's own orifice set, not a universal kit
    • Every burner and both ovens set and verified, not just the fronts
    • Written record of what the range is now set for

About La Cornue propane conversion service cost

Why the whole range, not the burners you use

Because the ones you do not use are where a half-finished conversion hides. We see ranges with the front burners correctly orificed and the plaque burner, the grill and the oven burners still set for the other fuel — which means the range cooks beautifully on two burners and produces soot, smell and slow oven heat everywhere else. Setting every burner, both ovens and the regulator, then leak-testing and writing down what the range is now on, is what the figure covers.

Questions about La Cornue propane conversion service cost

The range came with a conversion kit in the box. Can I fit it?

The CornuFé models do ship with one, and La Cornue publishes the procedure. Whether you fit it is a question about gas work rather than about difficulty: every orifice changed is a joint that has to be leak-tested afterwards, and a burner set by eye rather than to specification is the yellow-flame page. If you are qualified to work on gas, the documentation is there. If not, this is the wrong job to learn on.

How do I know if my range was converted properly?

Look at the flames. Blue with a defined inner cone on every burner, including the plaque and grill burners nobody uses, and no soot on a pan bottom. If any burner runs yellow, or if the range has moved house and nobody mentioned fuel, it is worth a diagnostic — and bring whatever paperwork exists.
