La Cornue vaulted gas oven ignition repair

The vaulted gas oven has no display, no window and no error code — La Cornue's own Château guide contains no troubleshooting section at all. So an oven that will not light is diagnosed the way gas has always been diagnosed: igniter, safety valve, thermocouple, supply, in that order and with instruments.

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Watch it try

Does the igniter glow, how strongly, and how long before the valve should open. This is where most of the answer is.

  2. 02

    Measure the igniter

Current draw, not appearance. A glowing igniter that never reaches the current the valve needs is the classic failure on this make.

  3. 03

    Test flame supervision

Thermocouple output against what the safety valve needs to stay open.

  4. 04

    The safety valve itself

Opens, holds, and shuts. A valve that will not hold is why an oven lights and dies.

  5. 05

Relight and stay for a cycle

An oven that lights once and fails on the second cycle is the common trap here.

Applies to

  • A tall electric wall oven built into a run of warm oak cabinetry, its door standing fully open on an empty cavity with a circular fan grille on the back wall and three wire shelf runners either side.
Vaulted ovens and convection ovens — gas, electric, and the Tourelle wall oven

La Cornue oven repair in Miami

There are three different ovens on this make and they fail in three different ways. The vaulted gas oven cooks by radiant heat inside a sealed dome and has an electric broiler over it. The vaulted electric oven sits on the other side of the same range. And since 2025 there is a standalone one: the Château Tourelle, a fully electric multifunction wall oven in 60 and 75 centimeter widths, built to sit in a cabinet run next to a Château cooktop. Which of the three you have decides everything about the repair.

    • Vaulted gas, vaulted electric and the electric Tourelle wall oven
    • Gas ovens carry an electric broiler — browning and baking can fail separately
    • Thermostat drift is measured against a probe, never adjusted by feel

  • A heavy hand-built enameled range cooker photographed low from its front left corner in a bright cream kitchen, the deep colored enamel of the flank filling the left of the frame, a brass rail and a row of round brass knobs running away from the camera, two oven doors below, adjustable feet on a warm oak floor.

La Cornue range repair in Miami

The range is what La Cornue makes, and everything else in the line exists around it. A Château is built to order in France, arrives in a crate weighing over half a ton, and is assembled from parts a customer chose one at a time: which oven is gas and which is electric, whether the top carries a French top, a lava-rock grill, induction or a teppanyaki plate, which of about fifty enamels, which trim metal. Two of them are almost never identical. That is the first thing a repair on one has to take seriously — the model number tells you the size, and the configuration code tells you what is actually under the lids.

    • Dual fuel, all gas or all induction — three different ranges, three parts lists
    • The configuration code, not just the model, decides what is on the top
    • Made-to-order enamel and trim are part of the job, not an extra

About La Cornue vaulted gas oven ignition repair

About lighting a vaulted gas oven

There is no display, no window and no code — La Cornue's Château guide has no troubleshooting section at all, and that is normal for this make rather than a sign the electronics are dead. So the work is measurement: igniter current, because the safety valve opens when the igniter draws enough amps and not when it looks bright; then the supervision signal; then the valve, held open and released. An igniter that glows convincingly and sits below the threshold is the classic failure here, and one clamp-meter reading separates it from the expensive alternative.

Questions about La Cornue vaulted gas oven ignition repair

Can I light the oven with a match meanwhile?

No — this is the one place we are firm. On a surface burner a long match is a reasonable stopgap because you can see the flame and the gas goes into an open room. A vaulted oven is a sealed cavity with the burner behind a heavy door, and the safety valve exists precisely to stop gas flowing without an established flame. Use the cooktop and wait.

It lit yesterday and not today.

That is how this problem arrives — an igniter degrades gradually and crosses the threshold on one particular day. If it had been getting slower to light over the previous weeks, mention it; that is confirmation rather than a complaint and it makes the diagnosis quick.
