What moves it
Why two of the same job cost different amounts
These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.
-
Seal, catch or hinge
The pattern of the leak around the perimeter says which, and often it is more than one.
-
Which door
Château doors are heavy and insulated with no window; CornuFé and Tourelle doors are lighter with glass.
-
Whether a seal is available
Current-line seals are stocked. An older configuration may be an order.
-
How distorted things are
A door or frame that has been forced is an assessment rather than an adjustment.
-
Whether it is measured hot
It should be. Everything on these doors fits differently at temperature.

What we actually do
The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.
-
from $215 Oven door seal and hinge service
On a vaulted oven the door is part of the cooking mass, and a seal that no longer pulls onto its frame turns into a cooking complaint rather than a visible leak. Long preheats, a cool front shelf and browning on one side all start here.
- Seal, catch and hinge adjusted as one system
- Door pull measured, not judged by how it sounds
- Heat loss confirmed before and after

About La Cornue oven door seal and hinge service cost
Why this shows up as a cooking problem
A vaulted oven holds heat in a mass and the door is part of that mass. A seal that has stopped meeting its frame along the top edge does not produce a dramatic plume — it produces an oven that comes up slowly, sits below its setting, recovers badly after the door has been open and browns unevenly. All of which get described as an oven losing its power. Which is why the diagnostic on any temperature complaint starts at the door: it is free to test and it is the cause more often than anything with a part number.

Questions about La Cornue oven door seal and hinge service cost
Can I fit a seal myself?
On a CornuFé or Tourelle door where the seal has simply come out of its channel, often yes, and we will happily say so on the phone. On a Château, we would rather do it — the doors are heavy, the hinges are under tension, and a seal that is not seated evenly compresses unevenly and hardens early. A seal fitted without setting the catch and hinges is the commonest reason a door still leaks after a new seal.
The door is stiff to open. Different problem?
Often the same adjustment seen from the other side. A catch pulling too hard onto a hardened seal makes a stiff door that still leaks at the corners, because the door pivots on the middle of the seal instead of landing flat. Stiff and leaky are not contradictory, and both are fixed by geometry rather than by tightening.
