What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • Lamp or socket

One lamp is a bulb. Two or three at once is a socket or a supply problem.

  • Which control path

In-hood buttons, remote, or neither. That single answer decides the part.

  • Whether it is the battery

Free, thirty seconds, and the answer more often than anybody admits.

  • One speed or all

A four-speed control that has lost its lower taps is a control, not a motor.

  • Which canopy

Château hoods use three 20-watt lamps; the newer inserts use LEDs.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • A hand fitting a small lamp into a recess in the stainless underside of a hood canopy, the lens ring and its retaining spring lying on a cloth on the range top below.
    from $165

    Hood lighting and remote repair

Three 20-watt high-intensity lamps on the Château hoods, LEDs on the newer inserts, and two separate control paths — in-hood activation and a remote. A hood that answers its own buttons but not the remote is a receiver, not a motor.

    • Single lamps are often a customer job and we say so
    • Remote and in-hood controls tested as separate paths
    • Two or three lamps out at once is a socket or supply problem, not bulbs

About La Cornue hood lighting and remote repair cost

The page that tries to talk you out of a visit

Two of the three problems on it are things an owner can settle in a minute: a remote battery, and a single blown lamp. We publish that because a hood is a $17,400 appliance and calling somebody out for a bulb is not a good use of anybody's afternoon. What genuinely needs us is a receiver that has stopped answering, a four-speed control that has lost its lower speeds, or a socket that kills every lamp put into it — and knowing which control path still works tells us which of those before we arrive.

Questions about La Cornue hood lighting and remote repair cost

Can I change a hood lamp myself?

Usually yes, and we would rather tell you than take the call. Power off, hood cool, and expect a stiff cover. The range's oven lamp too — La Cornue's own guide states it is not a warranty part and tells you to ask for a G9 halogen at any electrical shop. Stop if a new lamp does not light, or if several went at once.

Only the top speed works. Is that expensive?

No — it is the speed control rather than the motor almost every time, and it sits inside this figure. Worth fixing rather than living with: the low speeds are what a hood is meant to run at while something simmers, and a hood nobody switches on because it is deafening is a hood that is not protecting the kitchen.
