What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • How many burners

Combustion checked on every burner plus the plaque and grill burners. A Grand Palais 180 is not a four-burner range.

  • One oven or two

A dual-fuel Château has a gas oven and an electric oven that drift independently. That is two calibrations.

  • Whether the hood is included

It should be. Baffles out and washed, duct flow measured, blower current checked.

  • The finish

Enamel, brass, copper or a clear-coated trim each want different treatment, and a chip found early is stabilized rather than replaced.

  • What was found last time

A second annual visit is cheaper than the first because the unknowns are known.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • Brass burner caps and crowns lifted off and laid out in a neat row on a white cloth on a limestone counter beside the range, with a small brass brush and a port pick beside them.

    Appliance maintenance

An annual visit that exists because most of what goes wrong on this make goes wrong slowly. Burners drift rich, thermostats drift hot, baffles saturate, brass tarnishes, and the owner adapts to every one of them without noticing. This is the visit that measures instead of adapting.

    • Burner combustion and oven calibration checked against specification
    • Baffle filters, duct flow and blower condition on the hood
    • Enamel, trim and seals inspected while they are still repairable

About La Cornue appliance maintenance cost

Why the visit is longer here than on the rest of the fleet

Count the work. Up to eight gas burners, a plaque burner and a grill burner to check for combustion. Two ovens to calibrate against a probe through full cycles. A hood with baffles, a duct and a blower. A finish that has to be inspected rather than glanced at, because a chip in vitreous enamel in a coastal kitchen rusts outwards from the day it happens. That is a morning, not an hour, and the figure says so rather than hiding the time in a parts markup.

Questions about La Cornue appliance maintenance cost

Is this worth it on a range that is working fine?

On most appliances we would be honest and say once every couple of years. On this one, annually — because the failures here are gradual and invisible. A burner that has drifted rich, a thermostat 25 degrees out, baffles at half flow and an igniter on its way out all present as "fine" to somebody who cooks on it daily and has adjusted around each one.

What is not included?

Parts, and any repair found during the visit — those are quoted before anything is done. Also not included: deep cleaning of the range as a cosmetic job. We clean what has to be clean for the appliance to work, which is a different thing from a valet.
