What moves it

Why two of the same job cost different amounts

These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.

  • Which size

A Castel 60 and a Grand Palais 180 are the same job on paper and not in a corridor. Weight and access set the labor.

  • Fuel and altitude

Specified at order time. A range built for natural gas and fed propane is a problem created on installation day, and above 2,000 feet a Château needs specifying.

  • The hood and its duct

600 CFM assumes an unobstructed six-inch duct. A run that cannot deliver it is measured and reported before the hood goes up.

  • What the room already has

An existing gas line, an existing circuit and an existing duct are three things that may or may not meet the specification.

  • Whether anything has to be built

A rangetop drops into a counter; a Tourelle goes into a cutout. Neither is our carpentry, and we say what is needed before the day.

The work itself

What we actually do

The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

  • A thin steel shim being slid under the adjustable front foot of a very heavy range standing on protective board, a spirit level resting on the rail above it.

    Appliance installation

A Château is delivered in a crate that can weigh 1,320 lb and is leveled to a specification, not to a spirit level held by eye. Installation covers gas, electrical, leveling, hood duct and the first-use check — and it covers the paperwork, because altitude, fuel type and voltage are specified at order time and have to match what is actually in the house.

About La Cornue appliance installation cost

The part of installation that nobody prices

Leveling. It sounds like the trivial step and it is the one that produces cooking complaints six months later. La Cornue gives these ranges adjustable legs and a specified height range, and its own guide gives the test: a dish of water on an oven shelf should sit at one depth all over. A range that was slid into place and connected has a vaulted oven cooking unevenly, a plaque with heat pooling to one side, and an owner who thinks their oven is faulty. Ten minutes on installation day, or a diagnostic visit later.

Questions about La Cornue appliance installation cost

The dealer is delivering it. Do I need you as well?

Delivery and installation are different jobs and on this equipment the difference matters. A delivery puts the crate in your kitchen. Commissioning connects it to the maker's specification, levels it within its specified height range, proves the level with water on a shelf, checks every burner and both ovens, and leaves you a record of the fuel it is set for. Ask your dealer which of those two they are doing.

Can you install a range you did not supply?

Yes, and most of what we install we did not supply. What we ask for is the order paperwork if it exists — fuel type, voltage, altitude, finish reference — because those are specified at the factory and there is no way to read them off the appliance later.
