What moves it
Why two of the same job cost different amounts
These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.
-
Capacitor or motor
A few dollars against a considerable part, and a hum with no rotation usually means the cheap one.
-
How many blowers
One canopy, one motor; the larger motorized hoods can have two.
-
Whether the wheel is seized
Grease in the housing rather than a failed motor, and recoverable.
-
Motor availability
Sometimes a motor, sometimes only an assembly, and we say which before ordering.
-
Which canopy
A strapped or Suprême canopy is more unforgiving to handle, and that is time rather than parts.

What we actually do
The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.
-
from $285 Hood blower and capacitor repair
One 600 CFM blower on a four-speed variable motor, and on the larger motorized hoods two of them. A blower that has started to rumble will eventually stop, usually on the day the kitchen is full — and where there are two, one can fail silently while the other carries the load.
- Rumble and vibration treated as a failing bearing, not a quirk
- Capacitor tested before the motor is condemned
- On a two-motor hood, both are tested — one can fail unnoticed

About La Cornue hood blower and capacitor repair cost
What the figure protects
The canopy. A Château hood is enamelled and trimmed to match the range beneath it and starts at $17,400 — and it is not what fails. What fails is a blower, a capacitor, a bearing, a control or a lamp. So this job is done with the hood supported before any mount is undone, surfaces covered, and on a two-motor canopy both blowers examined while it is open, because opening a hood twice in a year is twice the risk to a finish that cannot be touched up on site.

Questions about La Cornue hood blower and capacitor repair cost
Why test a capacitor if the motor is dead?
Because it fails far more often than motors do and it looks identical from the kitchen. A hood condemned as needing a blower when it needed a capacitor is an expensive and entirely avoidable mistake, and on a canopy priced between $17,400 and $25,000 the ten minutes is worth it. If the capacitor is good and the motor is genuinely dead, we say so with the measurement.
It ran for a second, stopped, and now does nothing.
That is thermal protection rather than a dead component, and it points at something mechanical — a wheel dragging in grease or a failing bearing making the motor draw too much current. It trips, refuses to restart until it cools, and looks dead. Running it until it stops permanently is the expensive way to find that out.
