What we can confirm
Code E2, from the manufacturer's own documentation
A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.
The code
E2
La Cornue error code E2 is the induction hob reporting that its own electronic unit has got too hot and has shut the cooking zones down to protect itself. La Cornue's guide gives two causes and puts them in this order: the installation of the cooker and whether there is sufficient ventilation, and then — in extreme cases — a cooking utensil that has been allowed to boil dry. Neither of those is a broken component, which is why this code is worth understanding before anybody quotes for a board. It is a protection working, not a failure.

What else belongs to the cooktops and rangetops
On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.
Other codes this appliance can display
the electrical connection is wrong and the hob has latched off
an internal problem that needs a technician
no display, which the maker puts down to the supply
the protective device keeps operating and that is a test, not a reset
it will not switch on, and both of the maker's checks are upstream
the zone is still hot — an indicator, not a problem
the zone cannot see a suitable pan, and pan size is the usual reason
disconnect it immediately and do not use it until it is repaired
pan noise on induction is normal at high power
scratches do not come out, and pan bases are usually the cause
the flame safety device is not holding in
usually a burner head refitted wrongly or wet after cleaning

About La Cornue cooktop error code E2
What E2 means, in the maker's own words
La Cornue error code E2 is the induction hob reporting that its own electronic unit has got too hot and has shut the cooking zones down to protect itself. La Cornue's guide gives two causes and puts them in this order: the installation of the cooker and whether there is sufficient ventilation, and then — in extreme cases — a cooking utensil that has been allowed to boil dry. Neither of those is a broken component, which is why this code is worth understanding before anybody quotes for a board. It is a protection working, not a failure.
Quoted rather than interpreted
The electronic unit is too hot. Please check the installation of the cooker, making sure that there is sufficient ventilation. In extreme cases, if a cooking utensil has been allowed to boil dry this error code may also be displayed.
From the CornuFé 110 induction installation and user guide (U111136-03, January 2023), in a User Guide & Service Manual downloaded from La Cornue's own site. Nothing on this page is decoded beyond what that sentence says.
Where this code actually appears
On the induction hob's own display, and nowhere else. Most of this appliance cannot tell you anything at all: the vaulted gas oven has no window and no display, the gas top is mechanical valves behind brass knobs, and the Château install and user guide contains no troubleshooting section. All three of the codes La Cornue publishes anywhere — this one, U400, and Er followed by a number — appear in the induction sections of its guides and on the induction panel. Photograph what the hob shows before cutting the power: a reset erases it, and on a make this quiet the code is most of the diagnosis.
Which machines this one applies to
La Cornue induction cooktops and rangetops, and the electric and multifunction ovens. La Cornue publishes three codes in the whole of its US documentation and its Château guide carries no troubleshooting section, so a behavior missing from this archive is not proof that your appliance cannot do it — the maker simply never wrote a table for it. What its guides do document, they document in sentences, and those are on this site under the maker's own wording. The model number, and which top the range was ordered with, settle what any of it means.
What to do about it
- Note when it happens. Under load with several zones running is a heat and ventilation problem. Immediately after a pan boiled dry is the second cause the maker names. From cold, within minutes, every time, is the unit itself.
- Look in the cabinet under the cooktop. A drawer fitted later, stored pans, paper or anything packed around the generator closes off the air path the appliance was specified with. This is the maker's own first suggestion and it is very often the answer.
- Listen for the cooling fan. The electronics have active cooling and it can stop without any other symptom.
- Let it cool completely and try again from cold. A boil-dry event clears; an installation problem does not.
- Do not simply clear it and carry on. Repeated overheating is what eventually destroys the board this code exists to protect.
Where this goes next
The job this usually becomes is induction hob repair, and every one of those pages carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 614-3699 and describe what the display is doing before booking anything.
