# La Cornue induction hob repair

### About the only part of this make that reports anything

All three of La Cornue's documented codes live here: E2, the electronics are too hot; U400, the cooker is incorrectly connected; Er with a number, an internal problem the user cannot clear. Everything else on that display is an indicator — the pan-missing symbol, H for residual heat, A, L, L1, L2 and P — and knowing which is which saves a visit. E2 is investigated as ventilation first because that is the maker's own first suggestion, every zone is tested with a pan meeting its minimum base diameter, and only then are coil, sensor and generator measured.

What this involves

E2 is investigated as ventilation first, as the maker's own guide says

Indicators — H, the pan-missing symbol, L, A, P — are not problems

Zone-by-zone testing with pans that meet the minimum diameters

Read the code and the history

E2 during long cooking, E2 from cold and E2 after a pan boiled dry are three different conversations.

Look at the installation

What is packed into the cabinet under the hob, and whether air can reach the electronics. This is the maker's first suggestion and it is often the answer.

Test every zone properly

With a pan that meets the minimum base diameter for that zone — 4¾ inches front left, 5½ at the rear, 8¼ in the center. A small pan will not couple, and that is not a problem.

Measure supply and connection

A latched U400 is a wiring problem, and it is usually upstream of the appliance.

Then the unit

Coil, sensor and generator board, measured. An Er number goes straight here, and we say so rather than resetting it and leaving.

### Can you not just reset it?

On E2 we can and we will not leave it there. E2 is a protection: the electronics reached their limit and shut down to survive, and an appliance that trips it repeatedly is being cooked by its own environment. If the cause is the air path we say what it is and what it should be; if the installation is genuinely correct and it still trips, that is a part.

### Is a dead zone always the coil?

No — it can be the coil, its temperature sensor, or one channel of the generator, and all three look identical from above. It can also be the pan: a base below the minimum diameter for that zone will not couple at all, which is why the visit starts with a proper pan and a tape measure.
