# La Cornue appliance installation

### About installing and commissioning one of these

A Château arrives in a crate that can weigh 1,320 lb and is leveled to a specification, not to a spirit level held by eye. Commissioning means confirming the house against the order — fuel type, voltage, and altitude, which La Cornue asks about above 2,000 feet — then gas and electrical to the maker's own requirements document, then leveling within the specified height range and proving it with water on an oven shelf, then the hood duct measured against a 600 CFM specification, then a first-use check across every module. It finishes with paperwork saying what fuel the range is now set for.

What this involves

Gas and electrical to the maker's own requirements document

Leveled to specification — a dish of water sits at one depth all over

First-use check, and the hood duct measured rather than assumed

Confirm the house against the order

Fuel type, voltage, altitude above 2,000 feet. A range built for natural gas and fed propane is a problem created on installation day.

Gas and electrical to the requirements document

La Cornue publishes its own gas and electrical requirements sheet. It is followed, and a supply that does not meet it is reported rather than worked around.

Set the range and level it

Legs adjusted within the specified height range, then verified with water on an oven shelf — a dish should sit at one depth all over.

The hood and its duct

600 CFM is specified against an unobstructed six-inch duct. A run that cannot deliver it is measured and said out loud before the hood goes up.

First-use check and hand over

Every burner lit, both ovens run up, the induction zones tested with a proper pan, the hood through all four speeds. Then the paperwork, including what fuel it is now set for.

### The dealer is delivering it. Is that the same thing?

No, and the difference is worth establishing before the day. A delivery puts the crate in your kitchen and often uncrates it. Commissioning connects it to specification, levels it, proves the level, tests every burner and both ovens, checks the hood through all four speeds and leaves you a record. Ask your dealer which of the two is included.

### Can you install a range you did not supply?

Yes — most of what we commission we did not sell. What we ask for is the order paperwork if it exists, because fuel type, voltage, altitude and the finish reference are decided at the factory and cannot be read off the appliance afterwards. If it does not exist, say so; we work it out, it just takes longer.
